Therapeutic action
Genabilic acid (menbutone) is a derivative of oxibutyric acid, a general activator of digestive functions. It is an effective choleretic that can increase bile secretion by 2 to 5 times. Characteristic of the product's effect, alongside the increase in bile secretion volume, is the increase in the elimination of bile salts, bile pigments, and dry substances. Simultaneously, the secretion of the exocrine pancreas will also be activated, which will lead to an increase in the secreted volume by 200-500%, and in direct correlation, the secretion of amylase, lipase, trypsin, and pepsin also increases.
Menbutone does not develop a cholinergic effect on the isolated intestine. The secretion-strengthening properties must be accepted as a specific stimulation of the glands that does not depend on stimulation of the sympathetic nervous system. Through this, the drug stimulates transit, digestion, and assimilation of food and acts as a liver detoxifier.
Pharmacokinetics: After intravenous injection in cows, blood levels of 20 mcg will be reached, levels that then rapidly decrease. After 8 hours, only 1 mg/l remains. In milk, the level increases over time and reaches a maximum of 0.7–0.8 mcg/ml after 5 hours. After 14 hours, a maximum of 0.1 mcg/ml persists. Elimination is usually urinary. Within 24 hours, 40-45% of the oral dose and 12% of the intravenous dose will be eliminated through the kidneys as metabolites; 20-30% of elimination occurs through bile and only about 3% through feces.
Indications:
Stimulation of hepatodigestive activity in cases of digestive disorders and liver insufficiency
